The Treasury Department is an agency of the government. It is headed by the elected Treasurer. Its job is to collect taxes, pay government workers, and control government money. It usuallyincludes three divisions: Mint or Federal Reserve, Collection or IRS, and Payroll. The Treasury is also responsible forcollecting all government money paid in fines and fees as well as taxes. The Treasury Department creates the government budget and monitors it to see thatthe government isn’t overspending.
